Cole Hamels will be pitching in his native Southern California tonight against Tyler Skaggs and the Los Angeles Angels.

Hamels has pitched well in his previous visits to Angel Stadium, posting a 1-0 record and 2.25 ERA in 2 career starts. That follows the overall trend of him pitching well in Southern California, posting the following numbers while visiting the Dodgers and Padres over his career:

1-1 1.64 ERA in 3 starts at Dodger Stadium

5-1 2.01 ERA in 9 starts at Petco Park

Hamels has also seen success overall against this Angels lineup, holding their bigger bats to limited production:

Trout: 2 for 10

Pujols: 2 for 12

Espinosa: 1 for 16

Simmons: 3 for 25

Tyler Skaggs, on the other hand, has struggled over his brief career at the Major League level. He did hold the Rangers to 2 hits in 6 shutout innings his only start against them in 2016, but he has a 5.49 ERA against Texas for his career. Add that to the fact that he finished 2016 with a 4.17 ERA over 10 starts and gave up 5 runs in his only start of 2017 thus far, and there is reason not to be optimistic about him tonight.

The Texas Rangers offense is also getting hot here early in the season, scoring 19 runs over their previous 3 games (all against the Athletics), so with the Rangers moneyline at +103 it is hard not to see value there.

My personal pick is the Rangers +103
